Idol worship was one of the main reasons God had brought judgment on Israel. But a "godly remnant" remain in the tribe of Judah, although they were taken captive, this was to preserve the lineage of His people. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is a favorite to tell at Sunday School, but learning more then the miraculous story and seeing God's providence at work is really reassuring to know that his presence is always with us.

After 70 years of captivity, Judah was brought back to their land, the wall of Jerusalem was completed. The people waited for the messenger, John the Baptist, as the herald of Christ's first coming. Luke 1:76, 7:27.
